Planning your home with Indianapolis custom home builders like G&G Custom Homes means you can have exactly what you want rather than making concessions when buying an existing home. When doing so, keep in mind your basement. The basement is a part of the home, but often it isn’t treated equally. Here are some ideas for making the most of your finished basement.
Details
Just because this is your basement doesn’t mean it has to look like one. Look at the image above. The builder spared no details. The details make it look like any other room in the house. When you’re choosing things like flooring, consider carrying over some of the details you chose for the upper floors. Even if you’re creating a recreation or entertainment room, adding nice flooring, trim, lighting, and so on not only creates a more beautiful room but allows you to easily change the use of the room in the future.
Entertainment
Basements are often finished as entertainment areas. One reason is because the area can typically be very open. Basements are a great space to add things such as home theaters, bars, game rooms, and cellars. All of these are great uses for basement space. However, space can often be left unused. Talk to your builder about designing a basement that flows well and fills out the space. Imagine having a game room with a pool table next to your bar and a theater on the opposite side so no one misses the game.
Expanded Living Space
What else do you want your house to do for you; Provide space for out of town guests? Add on a guest room or two. If you have friends and/or family over often, adding a kitchenette and bathroom may be the perfect use for your basement. What if your basement allowed you to enjoy your hobbies? Perhaps you could build a traditional English style library and bourbon room in between your woodworking and sewing rooms.
Whatever you choose to do with your basement, don’t make it an afterthought. G&G Custom Homes can help you create the perfect basement. Contact us to share your ideas!
