Energy Star 3.0 for Homes, Custom Homes

Begining January 1, 2012 all Homes that meet Energy Star requirments need to conform to Energy Star 3.0. Homes either need to follow the Prescriptive path which is based on a predefined package of improvements or the Performance path which is based on a customized package of upgrades.

The benchmark home size defines the number of bedrooms and the square footage of a home. Homes that are larger than the benchmark home size must than follow the Performance path and than a size adjustment factor can be applied.

There are three mandatory requirements for all qualified homes.

  • Thermal Enclosure System
  • Heating, Ventilation, & Air Conditioning (HVAC) System

  • Water Management System

Stay tuned to see the process of building Energy Star 3.0 custom homes from start to finish. We will be including pictures of the different process of how a home becomes Energy Star rated and what goes into that. We will include copies of the mandatory checklists as well which will point out the critical points during the construction that need to be met. See what sets a Energy Star 3.0 custom home apart from other custom homes.
